Reyee RG-NIS Industrial PoE Switches: The UK Installer's Guide
Published 17 July 2026 · Last updated 17 July 2026 · Reyee networking guides for UK installers
An industrial PoE switch is the piece of kit that keeps a CCTV network alive where a normal switch would cook, freeze or corrode. This guide is for UK CCTV and security installers who fit cameras on ANPR poles, car parks, farms, marinas and factory floors, and it walks the full Ruijie Reyee RG-NIS range we stock at Netview: the cloud-managed RG-NIS2100-4GT2SFP-HP and RG-NIS2100-8GT2SFP-HP, the true L2 industrial RG-NIS3100-4GT2SFP-HP, RG-NIS3100-8GT2SFP-HP and RG-NIS3100-8GT4SFP-HP, plus the DIN-rail power supplies they need. By the end you will know which model suits which job, how to size the PSU, and how ERPS ring redundancy gets a failed link back in around 50 milliseconds.

What is an industrial PoE switch — and when does a CCTV job need one?
An industrial PoE switch is a hardened, fanless, DIN-rail-mounted switch built to run in temperature extremes, dust, vibration and electrical noise that would kill a desktop or rack switch. A standard commercial switch is typically rated to around 0–40°C — fine in a hallway cupboard, useless inside a steel roadside cabinet that hits 60°C in July sun and -10°C in a January frost. The moment your switch lives on a pole, in an external kiosk, in an unheated barn or plant room, or anywhere near heavy motors and switchgear, spec an industrial unit. The Reyee RG-NIS family is Ruijie's answer, and it was designed specifically with CCTV backhaul in mind, according to Ruijie's RG-NIS2100 launch announcement.
The Reyee RG-NIS range at a glance
Netview stocks five RG-NIS switches: the RG-NIS2100 series covers cloud-first CCTV jobs that need a 90 W PoE++ port, while the RG-NIS3100 series adds full L2 management, an 8 kV ESD shield and wider thermal headroom.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| RG-NIS2100-4GT2SFP-HP | 1× PoE++ (90 W) + 3× PoE+ | 2× 1GE SFP | Shared, PSU-dependent | Cloud managed |
| RG-NIS2100-8GT2SFP-HP | 1× PoE++ (90 W) + 7× PoE+ | 2× 1GE SFP | 228 W default / 300 W max | Cloud managed |
| RG-NIS3100-4GT2SFP-HP | 4× PoE/PoE+ | 2× 1GE SFP | 120 W | L2 managed industrial |
| RG-NIS3100-8GT2SFP-HP | 8× PoE/PoE+ | 2× 1GE SFP | 240 W | L2 managed industrial |
| RG-NIS3100-8GT4SFP-HP | 8× PoE/PoE+ | 4× 1GE SFP | 240 W | L2 managed industrial |

RG-NIS2100 series: cloud-managed industrial PoE with a 90 W PoE++ port
The RG-NIS2100 series is the CCTV-first choice: cloud-managed, fanless and fitted with one 90 W PoE++ port for the power-hungry device on every modern job — a PTZ with wiper and heater, an IR illuminator or a high-power access point. Per the official RG-NIS2100-8GT2SFP-HP datasheet page, the 10-port model delivers 1× PoE++ plus 7× PoE+ copper ports, 2× gigabit SFP uplinks, a 14.8 Mpps forwarding rate and 20 Gbps switching capacity, with a PoE budget of 228 W by default and up to 300 W via the web interface. Operating temperature is -40°C to +75°C thanks to a full-aluminium casing that Ruijie says exchanges heat around three times faster than steel. The smaller RG-NIS2100-4GT2SFP-HP gives you the same 90 W PoE++ port with 3× PoE+ ports and twin SFP uplinks for compact pole boxes.
Corrosion resistance is a genuine differentiator for coastal and agricultural work: the RJ45 ports carry gold plating increased from 3 μm to 15 μm, and Ruijie reports salt-spray testing at concentrations 400 times higher than typical coastal air for 48 hours (RG-NIS2100 launch article). Both models are IP40 rated against 1 mm solids, protected against 6 kV surges, meet EMC level 4 for electromagnetic interference, and carry a 5-year warranty.
RG-NIS3100 series: true L2 industrial switching down to -40°C
The RG-NIS3100 series is the harsh-environment workhorse: a true L2 managed industrial switch with STP/RSTP, SNMP and ERPS, 8 kV ESD protection and a 400,000-hour MTBF. The RG-NIS3100-8GT2SFP-HP datasheet page specifies 8× gigabit PoE+ ports, 2× 1GE SFP slots, a 240 W PoE budget, 14.88 Mpps forwarding, 20 Gbps capacity and surge protection of ±6 kV common mode on service ports. Its rated operating band runs from -40°C to +65°C in a sealed cabinet, extending to +80°C where ventilation reaches 400 LFM — worth knowing when you are deciding whether a pole cabinet needs vents. Power input is flexible 12–56 V DC with dual-input redundancy via the DIN-rail PSUs below, and jumbo frames to 9216 bytes suit multi-megapixel camera streams.
Choose the RG-NIS3100-4GT2SFP-HP (4× PoE+, 120 W) for small pole clusters, the RG-NIS3100-8GT2SFP-HP for standard 8-camera nodes, and the RG-NIS3100-8GT4SFP-HP when you need four SFP slots to build a fibre ring or daisy-chain multiple cabinets.
RG-NIS2100 vs RG-NIS3100: which one does the job?
Pick the RG-NIS2100 when you want plug-in cloud management and a 90 W PoE++ port; pick the RG-NIS3100 when the environment is the enemy and you want the deepest protection ratings and L2 feature set.
| Spec | RG-NIS2100-8GT2SFP-HP | RG-NIS3100-8GT2SFP-HP |
|---|---|---|
| PoE++ (90 W) port | Yes, 1 port | No |
| PoE budget | 228 W default / 300 W max | 240 W |
| Operating temperature | -40°C to +75°C | -40°C to +65°C sealed / +80°C @ 400 LFM |
| ESD / surge | 6 kV surge, EMC level 4 | 8 kV ESD, ±6 kV service-port surge |
| Management | Ruijie Cloud + web UI, DIP-switch ERPS | L2: STP/RSTP, SNMP, ERPS, cloud |
| MTBF / warranty | 5-year warranty | 400,000 h MTBF, 5-year warranty |
Don't forget the power supply: choosing the right DIN-rail PSU
Every RG-NIS switch ships without a power adapter — Ruijie's ordering information states the PSU must be purchased separately, so add one to every quote. Netview stocks all four Ruijie DIN-rail PSUs: the 120 W RG-NIS-PA120-48 (48 V) and RG-NIS-PA120-54 (54 V), and the 240 W RG-NIS-PA240-48 (48 V) and RG-NIS-PA240-54 (54 V). Two rules of thumb: for PoE loads choose the 54 V output so the switch can deliver its full PoE+/PoE++ budget, and size the PSU wattage to your real PoE draw plus the switch's own consumption — a four-camera pole on an RG-NIS3100-4GT2SFP-HP is comfortable on a PA120-54, while a fully loaded 8-port node wants the PA240-54.
ERPS ring redundancy: 50 ms failover for critical CCTV
ERPS (Ethernet Ring Protection Switching) links your cabinets in a fibre ring so that if one leg is cut, traffic reverses around the ring and service recovers in roughly 50 milliseconds — fast enough that recording never visibly drops (Reyee RG-NIS3100 product page). On the RG-NIS2100 series, Ruijie added a DIP switch that configures the ring with one touch — no CLI needed. For a car park with four camera poles, run fibre pole-to-pole-to-gatehouse and back using the SFP slots (the 4-SFP RG-NIS3100-8GT4SFP-HP is built for exactly this), and a single trenching strike no longer takes down half your cameras.
Where UK installers should fit RG-NIS switches
Fit an industrial PoE switch anywhere the environment falls outside a commercial switch's comfort zone. The classic UK cases: ANPR and CCTV pole cabinets on car parks and industrial estates; farm and equestrian sites where dust and unheated outbuildings are standard; ports, marinas and seafront properties where salt corrosion eats standard RJ45 ports; factory floors near motors and welders where EMC level 4 immunity and 8 kV ESD protection matter; and remote gatehouses fed by a wireless bridge such as the Reyee RG-EST330F-P, which pairs neatly with an RG-NIS switch at the far end to power the cameras. For indoor plant rooms that stay within normal temperatures, a standard smart CCTV switch like the RG-ES226GC-P or L2 managed RG-NBS3100-8GT2SFP-P-V2 remains the more economical pick — see our Reyee managed switches guide for that side of the family.
Ruijie Cloud: remote management, PoE watchdog and port reboots
Every RG-NIS switch adopts into the free Ruijie Cloud platform, which is what turns a remote cabinet into something you can support without a van roll. The CCTV-specific features are the useful ones: IPC offline alarms tell you a camera has dropped before the customer does, individual port reboots let you power-cycle a hung camera from your phone, and the PoE watchdog automatically restarts a port when a powered device stops responding. Cloud adoption works the same way as the rest of the Reyee estate — scan the QR, drop it into the site project, hand over a viewer login — so mixed networks of RG-NIS, RG-EG210G-P-V3 gateways and RG-ES access switches all sit in one dashboard. Our RG-ES switch guide covers the indoor tiers of the same cloud story.

How to spec an RG-NIS installation: a worked example
Specifying an industrial node takes five minutes once you know the sequence. Say a customer wants four AcuSense turrets and one PTZ on a car-park pole, 400 m from the gatehouse. Step 1: the switch lives in a pole cabinet, so it must be industrial — RG-NIS. Step 2: count ports and watts — four turrets drawing a few watts each plus a high-power PTZ points to the RG-NIS2100-8GT2SFP-HP, whose 90 W PoE++ port carries the PTZ with headroom. Step 3: management — cloud-only is fine here, so NIS2100 over NIS3100. Step 4: power — the steady-state PoE draw is modest, but the PTZ heater peaks in winter, so fit the 240 W RG-NIS-PA240-54. Step 5: uplink — 400 m rules out copper; run fibre into an SFP slot, or bridge it wirelessly. Step 6: adopt to Ruijie Cloud, label the ports, enable the PoE watchdog and hand over. For deeper PoE-budget maths, our PoE switch sizing guide walks the full calculation.
Frequently asked questions
Do Reyee RG-NIS switches come with a power supply?
No. Ruijie's ordering information for the range states a power adapter is not included. Order an RG-NIS-PA120-54 or RG-NIS-PA240-54 DIN-rail PSU with every switch — 54 V models for PoE work, sized above your total PoE draw.
What temperature range can the RG-NIS switches handle?
The RG-NIS2100 series is rated -40°C to +75°C. The RG-NIS3100 series is rated -40°C to +65°C in a sealed cabinet, rising to +80°C with 400 LFM ventilation, per the Reyee datasheet pages.
Which RG-NIS switch powers a PTZ camera with heater and wiper?
Either RG-NIS2100 model: both carry one 90 W PoE++ port designed for high-power devices such as PTZ security cameras. The RG-NIS3100 series tops out at PoE+ (30 W per port).
Can I build a redundant fibre ring with these switches?
Yes. All five models support ERPS with failover in around 50 ms. Use the SFP slots for the ring; the RG-NIS3100-8GT4SFP-HP's four SFP ports make it the natural ring node, and the NIS2100's DIP switch configures ERPS with one touch.
Are RG-NIS switches managed from the same cloud as other Reyee kit?
Yes — they adopt into Ruijie Cloud alongside Reyee gateways, APs and RG-ES/RG-NBS switches, with IPC offline alarms, per-port reboot and PoE watchdog included free.
Do I really need industrial for a loft or garage install?
Usually not. If the space stays roughly within commercial temperature ratings and is dry, a smart RG-ES or RG-NBS switch is more economical. Spec RG-NIS when heat, cold, dust, salt or electrical noise is genuinely in play — pole cabinets, barns, marinas, plant rooms.
