Reyee Managed Switches for CCTV: RG-NBS Range Guide

Reyee managed switches for CCTV give installers a cloud-managed backbone that segments cameras onto their own VLAN, delivers PoE+ to every IP camera and uplinks recorders at 10 Gigabit — all configured from the Ruijie Cloud app. This guide is written for UK CCTV and security installers who need to pick the right Reyee RG-NBS switch for a job without over- or under-specifying it. We break down the three managed tiers (RG-NBS3100, RG-NBS3200 and RG-NBS5100/5200), where each one fits, and the in-stock models we dispatch the same day from Leicester.

Choosing a Reyee RG-NBS managed switch for a CCTV install: L2, L2 with 10G uplinks, and L3 static-routing tiers.

At a glance

  • Unmanaged (RG-ES series) is fine for a single small camera run, but gives you no VLANs, no diagnostics and no remote view.
  • Smart / cloud-managed (RG-ES2xxGC-P) adds VLANs and Ruijie Cloud visibility for small jobs at the lowest cost.
  • Layer 2 managed RG-NBS3100 is the workhorse: full VLANs, IGMP snooping, loop protection and 370W PoE on the 24-port model. Use for most 8–48 camera sites.
  • RG-NBS3200 adds 10G SFP+ uplinks — choose it when high-megapixel cameras would saturate a Gigabit uplink to the recorder.
  • RG-NBS5100 / RG-NBS5200 step up to Layer 3 with static routing, for multi-VLAN sites that need inter-VLAN routing on the switch.
  • Every RG-NBS switch runs Reyee's Self-Organizing Network (SON) and is managed free through Ruijie Cloud.

Why use a managed switch for CCTV at all?

A managed switch lets you put cameras on their own VLAN, keeping CCTV traffic and broadcast storms off the customer's data network. For a single four- or eight-camera job an unmanaged PoE switch such as the Ruijie RG-ES118GS-P (16-port Gigabit PoE+, 247W) will record happily. The moment a site shares one network between cameras, tills, Wi-Fi and a customer's PCs, you want VLAN segmentation, IGMP snooping for multicast control and a remote way to see which port a camera is on. That is the job a managed Reyee RG-NBS switch does, and it is why segmentation is now standard practice on commercial installs.

What are the three Reyee managed switch tiers?

Reyee splits its cloud-managed RG-NBS line into a Layer 2 tier, a Layer 2 tier with 10G uplinks, and a Layer 3 static-routing tier. The RG-NBS3100 series are Gigabit Layer 2 cloud-managed switches; the RG-NBS3200 series are Layer 2 switches with 10 Gigabit SFP+ uplinks; and the RG-NBS5100 and RG-NBS5200 series are Reyee's Layer 3 (static routing) tier (Ruijie Reyee switch range). All three run the same ReyeeOS firmware and the same Ruijie Cloud management, so the decision is about ports, uplink speed and whether you need routing on the switch — not about learning a new platform each time.

When is the RG-NBS3100 the right choice?

The RG-NBS3100 is the right switch for the large majority of CCTV jobs — anything from one IP camera run up to a 48-camera site on a single network. The 24-port Ruijie RG-NBS3100-24GT4SFP-P-V2 provides 24 Gigabit PoE+ ports, four 1G SFP uplinks, a 370W PoE budget, 56 Gbps switching capacity and a 41.66 Mpps forwarding rate (Reyee RG-NBS3100 product page). For smaller jobs the RG-NBS3100-8GT2SFP-P-V2 (8-port PoE+, two SFP, 125W) fits a domestic or small-retail rack, and the 48-port RG-NBS3100-48GT4SFP-P covers larger sites. Where cameras are powered locally and you only need managed switching, the non-PoE RG-NBS3100-24GT4SFP-V2 saves on cost.

For PoE budget planning — working out whether 370W is enough for your camera count and PTZ loads — see our companion Reyee PoE switch sizing guide.

When do you need the RG-NBS3200 and its 10G uplinks?

Step up to the RG-NBS3200 when the total camera bitrate on a switch would saturate a 1 Gigabit uplink to the recorder. The RG-NBS3200 series are Layer 2 switches that swap the 3100's 1G SFP uplinks for 10 Gigabit SFP+ ports. The Ruijie RG-NBS3200-24GT4XS-P gives you 24 Gigabit PoE+ access ports, four 10G SFP+ uplinks and a 370W PoE budget; the non-PoE RG-NBS3200-24GT4XS suits a distribution layer. As a rule of thumb, 24 cameras averaging 8 Mbps is only ~192 Mbps, but add 4K/8MP cameras at 16–20 Mbps each, multiple recorders and live multi-stream viewing, and a 10G uplink removes the bottleneck and future-proofs the rack.

Where do the multi-gigabit RG-NBS3300 switches fit?

The RG-NBS3300 series is for sites where individual cameras or access points need more than 1 Gigabit at the access port. The Ruijie RG-NBS3300-8MG2XS-P offers eight 2.5G PoE+ ports with two 10G SFP+ uplinks, and the RG-NBS3300-16MG4XS-HP provides sixteen 2.5G PoE++ ports with four SFP+ uplinks. Multi-gigabit access matters for the latest high-resolution cameras, Wi-Fi 6/7 access points sharing the CCTV switch, and any device whose throughput now exceeds a single Gigabit link.

When should you specify the Layer 3 RG-NBS5100 or RG-NBS5200?

Choose the RG-NBS5100 or RG-NBS5200 when a site has several VLANs that must route to each other on the switch rather than on a separate gateway. These are Reyee's Layer 3 tier with static routing (Reyee switch range). The Ruijie RG-NBS5100-24GT4SFP-P is a 24-port Gigabit PoE+ Layer 3 switch with four SFP uplinks; the non-PoE RG-NBS5100-24GT4SFP suits an aggregation role; and the Ruijie RG-NBS5200-24GT4XS-P combines Layer 3 static routing with four 10G SFP+ uplinks. On most CCTV-only jobs you will not need Layer 3 — routing usually happens at the gateway — but for mixed CCTV, access-control and data networks across multiple subnets the RG-NBS5100/5200 keeps routing local and fast.

How does Reyee SON and Ruijie Cloud management work?

Every RG-NBS switch runs in Self-Organizing Network (SON) mode by default, which lets Reyee devices discover each other and be managed as one network, with a Standalone mode also available (Ruijie Reyee). You add a switch to Ruijie Cloud by scanning its QR code in the free Ruijie Reyee app, then configure VLANs, PoE schedules and port settings remotely. For installers running several customer sites, this is the same single pane of glass that manages Reyee gateways, switches and access points — covered in our Reyee Cloud multi-site guide. The Reyee app's AR HUD even lets you scan a switch to see which device is on each port for faster fault-finding.

How to pick the right Reyee switch in four questions

Work through these four questions and the model picks itself:

  1. How many PoE cameras and what total wattage? Count ports and add up PoE draw — 370W covers 24 standard cameras comfortably.
  2. Will the uplink to the recorder be saturated? If total camera bitrate approaches 1 Gbps, choose an RG-NBS3200 with 10G SFP+.
  3. Does any single device need more than 1 Gigabit? If yes, an RG-NBS3300 multi-gig switch.
  4. Do VLANs need to route to each other on the switch? If yes, an RG-NBS5100/5200 Layer 3 switch; if not, an RG-NBS3100 is enough.

Pair the switch with a Reyee gateway from our RG-EG cloud router range and you have a complete, SON-managed network. For recorder pairing, see the Hikvision NVR buyer's guide, and browse the full line-up on our brands page.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a managed switch for a small CCTV system?

No — for a single small camera run an unmanaged PoE switch like the RG-ES118GS-P is fine. You need a managed switch (RG-NBS3100 or above) once you want VLAN segmentation, IGMP snooping or remote diagnostics, which is standard on commercial jobs.

What is the difference between RG-NBS3100 and RG-NBS3200?

Both are Layer 2 cloud-managed switches; the RG-NBS3200 swaps the RG-NBS3100's 1G SFP uplinks for 10 Gigabit SFP+ uplinks, so it is the choice when high-megapixel camera loads would saturate a Gigabit link to the recorder.

Do Reyee RG-NBS switches need a licence or subscription?

No. Ruijie Cloud management and the Self-Organizing Network features are free to use; you only pay for the hardware.

Can one switch power PTZ cameras?

Yes, within the PoE budget. The RG-NBS3100-24GT4SFP-P-V2 carries a 370W PoE+ budget; for high-power PTZ or PoE++ devices, check the per-port and total budget against the camera datasheet, or step up to a PoE++ model such as the RG-NBS3300-16MG4XS-HP.

Do I need a Layer 3 switch for CCTV?

Usually not. On CCTV-only networks routing happens at the gateway, so an RG-NBS3100 is enough. Specify an RG-NBS5100/5200 only when several VLANs must route to each other directly on the switch.

Are Reyee switches compatible with Hikvision and HiLook cameras?

Yes. Reyee RG-NBS switches are standard 802.3af/at (and 802.3bt on PoE++ models) PoE switches and work with any compliant IP camera, including Hikvision, HiLook and Ruijie's own range.
