HiLook AcuSense cameras use on-board deep-learning analytics to tell people and vehicles apart from wind, rain, foliage and animals — so the only motion alerts your customer sees are the ones that matter. For installers, that means fewer nuisance notifications, faster footage searches and a credible smart-detection range at a budget price point. This guide explains exactly what HiLook AcuSense does, how it differs from plain motion detection, which models we stock, and how to pair them with the right recorder. Every camera linked below is held in stock at our Leicester trade counter for same-day dispatch.
At a glance
- What it is: HiLook's entry-tier implementation of AcuSense — deep-learning detection that classifies targets as human, vehicle or other.
- Why it matters: filtering alerts to people and vehicles can cut false alarms by up to 90% versus basic motion detection.
- The range: 2 MP, 4 MP and 8 MP (4K) IP turrets, plus Turbo HD (coax) and a Wi-Fi indoor option.
- The headline trick: Smart Hybrid Light keeps cameras discreet on IR until AcuSense spots a person or vehicle, then fires white light for full-colour evidence.
- The deterrent: LiveGuard
/SLmodels add a strobe, siren and two-way audio that AcuSense triggers automatically. - For smart search: pair with a HiLook AcuSense NVR or DVR to jump straight to human or vehicle clips.

What is HiLook AcuSense?
HiLook AcuSense is a deep-learning analytic that classifies moving targets into people, vehicles and other objects, so the camera only raises an alarm for the targets you care about. It is the entry-tier version of the same AcuSense engine Hikvision uses across its Pro range — empowered by deep-learning algorithms, AcuSense distinguishes people and vehicles from other moving targets and supports a Quick Target Search that pulls the relevant clips automatically (Hikvision AcuSense). HiLook's implementation keeps the essentials — human and vehicle filtering — while leaving the more granular, business-focused tuning to the Hikvision Pro tier. For most domestic and small-commercial jobs, that essential filtering is exactly what makes a system usable day to day.
How AcuSense cuts false alarms
AcuSense reduces nuisance alerts by running target classification on the camera itself, so swaying trees, rain, shadows and passing cats no longer trigger a notification. Hikvision rates AcuSense false-alarm reduction at up to 90% of events compared with conventional motion detection, with the same engine driving a Quick Target Search that identifies footage of people or vehicles automatically (Hikvision AcuSense). On a HiLook camera this is delivered through Motion Detection 2.0: the basic motion-detection event can be set to trigger only on specified target types — human and vehicle — rather than on any pixel change (IPC-T249HA-LU datasheet). The practical payoff is fewer 3 a.m. phone notifications for the end user, fewer callbacks for you, and recordings that are actually searchable.
The HiLook AcuSense IP camera range
The HiLook AcuSense IP line spans 2 MP to 8 MP (4K), all PoE turrets with a built-in microphone, and steps up in resolution, light power and deterrence as you climb the range. The table below is the quick decision shortlist; each model links to the live stocked product page.
| Model | Resolution | Light & deterrence | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| IPC-T229HA-LU | 2 MP | Smart Hybrid Light | Budget domestic, plenty of channels |
| IPC-T249HA-LU | 4 MP | Smart Hybrid Light | The all-rounder — our most popular AcuSense turret |
| IPC-T280HA-LUF/SL | 8 MP (4K) | LiveGuard: strobe + siren + 2-way audio | High-detail jobs needing active deterrence |
| IPC-T280HAD-LUF/SL | 8 MP panoramic | Dual-lens 180° + LiveGuard | Wide frontages and forecourts on one cable |
The 4 MP IPC-T249HA-LU is the sweet spot for most installs — enough resolution for usable facial and number-plate detail at sensible bit rates. Step up to the 8 MP IPC-T280HA-LUF/SL where the customer wants 4K detail plus an audible, visible warning at the camera. For a single camera covering a wide drive or shop frontage, the dual-lens IPC-T280HAD-LUF/SL stitches a 180° panorama. Need an indoor view? The Wi-Fi IPC-C340HA-D/W cube covers hallways and back rooms without a cable run.
Smart Hybrid Light: how AcuSense keeps cameras discreet
Smart Hybrid Light lets a HiLook AcuSense camera sit quietly on infrared until AcuSense detects a person or vehicle, then switch to white light for full-colour evidence. You get three selectable modes — 24/7 colour, IR black-and-white, or Smart — and in Smart mode the camera holds infrared illumination until a person or vehicle is recognised, at which point white light triggers automatically for vivid colour (IPC-T249HA-LU datasheet). That solves the classic objection to full-colour ColorVu cameras — a floodlight burning all night — because the white light only fires when AcuSense has something worth lighting. For the full breakdown of HiLook's lighting families, see our companion guide to HiLook ColorVu and Smart Hybrid Light cameras.

LiveGuard: turning detection into active deterrence
LiveGuard /SL models turn an AcuSense detection into an immediate, automatic warning — a flashing strobe, a siren and a spoken audio challenge — without anyone watching the feed. On the IPC-T280HA-LUF/SL the active deterrence system combines a strobe light and a loud siren that an event such as human or vehicle detection can trigger, plus built-in two-way audio so an operator can warn intruders, give instructions to delivery drivers or speak to visitors remotely (Hikvision HiLook product page). Because AcuSense gates the trigger, the strobe and siren respond to a real person or vehicle rather than to a moth crossing the lens — which is what makes camera-side deterrence practical rather than maddening. The same audio path doubles as a two-way intercom through Hik-Connect.
AcuSense on Turbo HD (coax upgrades)
If the site already has coax, HiLook brings smart human and vehicle detection to Turbo HD too, so you can upgrade an analogue system without re-cabling. The 2 MP THC-T227-LTS Smart Hybrid turret carries the smart-hybrid light and two-way audio over a single coax run, with detection handled at the recorder. Pair it with a HiLook Turbo HD DVR such as the 4-channel DVR-204U-M1(E) or 8-channel DVR-208U-M1(C), both 3K/8 MP-capable, and you have a coax-based AcuSense upgrade path. For the full coax story, see our HiLook Turbo HD DVR and camera guide.
Smart search: pairing AcuSense with the right recorder
An AcuSense camera filters alerts on its own, but pairing it with an AcuSense-capable recorder unlocks smart search — jumping straight to human or vehicle clips instead of scrubbing hours of timeline. For IP installs, the 4-channel DS-7604NXI-K1/4P(D) and 8-channel DS-7608NXI-K1/8P(D)/Alarm PoE NVRs power and record the cameras over a single cable and support target-based playback search. Sizing the recorder and storage correctly matters as much as the camera choice — our HiLook NVR 4 MP vs 8 MP guide walks through channel count, resolution and bit-rate budgeting. Note that even on a non-AcuSense recorder the camera still filters its own alerts; you simply lose the recorder-side smart search.
Spec snapshot: the 4 MP IPC-T249HA-LU
The 4 MP IPC-T249HA-LU is the model most installers reach for, so it is worth knowing its numbers cold. It uses a 1/3' progressive-scan CMOS at 2560 × 1440, with an F1.0 aperture and minimum illumination of 0.001 lux in colour (0 lux with the light on) — and on the 2.8 mm lens it covers a 96° horizontal field of view with DORI ranges of Detect 63 m, Observe 25 m, Recognise 12 m and Identify 6 m (IPC-T249HA-LU datasheet). The Smart Hybrid Light reaches up to 30 m, the camera encodes in H.265+ to keep storage down, handles 120 dB WDR for tricky backlight, and runs on PoE (IEEE 802.3af, Class 3, max 7.5 W) or 12 VDC at around 6 W — all in an IP67 metal housing (datasheet). For a 2 MP equivalent on a tighter budget, the IPC-T229HA-LU shares the same Smart Hybrid Light and AcuSense behaviour at lower resolution.

Setting up AcuSense detection
Configuring AcuSense is a four-step job: draw the detection area, enable the human and vehicle target types, tune the sensitivity, then link an action. You can do this from the camera's own web interface, from iVMS-4200 on a laptop, or remotely through Hik-Connect at handover. Set the basic motion-detection event to trigger by specified target type so only people and vehicles raise an alarm, mask out busy public footpaths or neighbouring driveways to avoid drive-by triggers, and link the detection to recording, notification or — on a LiveGuard model — the strobe and audio. Spend two minutes tuning sensitivity on site and you will save the customer countless false alerts later.
AcuSense vs basic motion, and vs Hikvision Pro
Choose AcuSense whenever the customer will actually act on alerts; choose a plain IR camera only where it is a pure passive record. The non-AcuSense IPC-T250H-MU is a capable 5 MP value turret, but it cannot distinguish a person from a swaying branch — so every gust becomes an event. Above HiLook sits the Hikvision Pro tier, which adds finer rule control, more analytics and business features; our HiLook vs Hikvision Pro comparison and the Hikvision AcuSense hub set out where each tier earns its keep. For most homes and small premises, HiLook AcuSense delivers the 80% of the benefit that customers notice — clean alerts — at a price that wins the quote.
Frequently asked questions
Is HiLook AcuSense the same as Hikvision AcuSense?
It uses the same deep-learning human and vehicle classification, but HiLook's version is the entry tier — it filters alerts to people and vehicles without the granular rule tuning and business analytics of the Hikvision Pro range. For most domestic and light-commercial jobs the core filtering is identical in effect.
Do I need a special recorder to use AcuSense?
No. The camera filters its own alerts regardless of recorder. Pairing with a HiLook AcuSense NVR or DVR adds smart search — the ability to jump straight to human or vehicle clips — but a standard recorder will still capture and display the footage.
How much does AcuSense reduce false alarms?
Hikvision rates AcuSense at up to a 90% reduction in false-alarm events versus conventional motion detection, by ignoring anything that is not classified as a person or vehicle. Real-world results depend on scene setup — masking and sensitivity tuning matter.
What does the /SL suffix mean on a HiLook model?
The /SL suffix denotes a LiveGuard camera with a strobe light and siren for active deterrence, on top of the standard Smart Hybrid Light. AcuSense detection of a person or vehicle can trigger the strobe and audio automatically.
Can I add AcuSense to an existing coax system?
Yes. The Turbo HD THC-T227-LTS gives you smart human and vehicle detection over existing coax when paired with a HiLook Turbo HD DVR, so you can upgrade an analogue site without pulling new cable.
Which HiLook AcuSense camera should I fit as standard?
The 4 MP IPC-T249HA-LU is the default choice — the best balance of detail, storage and price. Move to the 8 MP IPC-T280HA-LUF/SL where the customer wants 4K plus an at-camera strobe and audio deterrent.
