A Hikvision video intercom lets a visitor at the door call a screen inside the building — or a phone anywhere — so the occupant can see them, talk to them and release the door. This installer guide explains the whole Hikvision door-entry range in plain English: the difference between 2-Wire, IP and modular systems, which kits suit a house, a villa or a block of flats, the indoor stations you can pair with them, and how remote answering works through Hik-Connect. If you have ever stared at the intercom listing wondering whether to quote a DS-KIS702Y or a DS-KIS604-P(C), this is written for you.
What this guide covers
- 2-Wire vs IP vs Modular — how to choose the right Hikvision architecture for the job
- Kits — the DS-KIS702Y 2-Wire kit and the DS-KIS604-P(C) IP kit, decoded
- Door stations — villa (DS-KV8113-WME1(C)) and modular apartment stations
- Indoor stations — 7-inch, 10-inch and Android monitors
- Hik-Connect — answering the door on a phone with no port forwarding
The full Hikvision intercom range is in stock at Netview for same-day dispatch from Leicester.
What is a Hikvision video intercom?
A Hikvision video intercom is a door-entry system built from three parts: an outdoor door station with a camera, microphone and call button; one or more indoor monitors (indoor stations); and the cabling and power that ties them together. When a caller presses the button, the door station streams live video and two-way audio to the indoor station, and can also ring the Hik-Connect app on a smartphone. Most current Hikvision door stations use a 2 megapixel (1080p) camera with an infrared night mode and an integrated card reader for keyless entry, and can trigger a relay to release an electric lock or gate.
2-Wire vs IP vs Modular: which Hikvision intercom should you fit?
Choose 2-Wire for retrofits over existing cable, IP for new builds and networked sites, and modular for apartment blocks with multiple tenants. That one line answers most jobs; the table below shows why.
| System | Best for | Cabling | Typical kit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2-Wire | Retrofits & upgrades reusing old cable | Two non-polarised cores | DS-KIS702Y, DS-KIS704EY |
| IP | New builds, networked & multi-monitor sites | Cat5e/Cat6, PoE | DS-KIS604-P(C) |
| Modular | Apartments & multi-tenant entrances | IP (PoE) or 2-Wire backbone | DS-KD8003-IME1(B)/S + modules |
Best Hikvision 2-Wire intercom kits for retrofits
For a straight swap-out where the customer already has cable in the wall, a Hikvision 2-Wire kit is the fastest install because it runs over two non-polarised cores. The DS-KIS702Y is the workhorse: it ships as a complete bundle — a DS-KD8003Y-IME2 modular door station, a DS-KH6320Y-WTE2 7-inch touchscreen indoor station, a DS-KAD704Y audio/video distributor, a power supply and a 16 GB microSD card — with a 2 MP door camera and support for up to 16 indoor monitors on the system (Hikvision DS-KIS702Y specification). Where the customer wants a smarter finish, the DS-KIS704EY/Aluminum 2-Wire HD kit steps up the door-station build quality.
2-Wire is the biggest time-saver on refurbishments and flat conversions because you are not pulling new structured cabling — you reuse the existing pair and let the distributor carry power, video and data.
Best Hikvision IP video intercom kits for new builds
On a new build or any site with a network already in place, an IP kit is the better long-term choice because it runs on standard Cat5e/Cat6 and is powered over PoE. The DS-KIS604-P(C) is Hikvision's mainstream IP bundle, pairing a 1080p door station — with Wide Dynamic Range and a wide 124° horizontal field of view — with a 7-inch indoor station and a PoE switch in the box (Hikvision DS-KIS604-P(C) datasheet). IP systems scale more easily to several monitors, integrate with Hikvision NVRs and access control, and keep everything on one manageable network.
Need a premium metal villa finish with the switch already bundled? The DS-KIS613-S kit combines a 4 MP metal villa door station, a 7-inch indoor station and a PoE switch in a single order.
Villa door stations for single dwellings
For a house or a single villa, a one-button villa door station is usually all you need. The DS-KV8113-WME1(C) is the go-to unit: a 2 MP (1920×1080) camera with a 129° horizontal field of view, standard PoE or 12 VDC power, an IP65 and IK08 weather-and-vandal rating, a built-in Mifare card reader and two-way audio with noise suppression and echo cancellation. On current firmware it can call the Hik-Connect app directly, so a customer can answer the door on their phone even without an indoor monitor fitted (Hikvision DS-KV8113-WME1 specification).
Where budget or Wi-Fi flexibility matters, the DS-KV6113-WPE1(C) adds Wi-Fi, and for a property split into two dwellings the two-button DS-KV8213-WME1 calls two separate indoor stations.
Modular door stations for apartments and multi-tenant sites
For a block of flats or any entrance with several occupants, a modular door station lets you build exactly the panel the site needs. The DS-KD8003-IME1(B)/S is the camera-and-audio main module; you then stack additional modules for a keypad, proximity card reader, nametag call buttons, a display or an information panel to suit the number of tenants and the access method. Because the modules share a common housing and surface- or flush-mount frames, you can specify a two-tenant entrance today and extend it later without swapping the whole panel.
Modular is the right call whenever the caller needs to choose which flat to ring, or where the client wants keypad and card entry alongside the intercom on the same plate.
Indoor stations: 7-inch, 10-inch and Android
The indoor station is the screen the occupant answers on, and Hikvision offers three broad tiers. The DS-KH6320-WTE1 is the standard 7-inch touchscreen monitor with Wi-Fi — the default pairing for most houses and villas. For a larger, more premium finish, the 10-inch Android DS-KH9510-WTE1(B) adds a bigger screen and a smoother interface. Across a system you can mix indoor stations and add extension monitors so every floor of a house can answer the door.
Remote answering with Hik-Connect
Hik-Connect is the free Hikvision app that lets the customer answer the door station from a phone anywhere, using Hikvision's peer-to-peer (P2P) cloud so you do not need port forwarding on the router. Once the door station or indoor monitor is added to the account, calls ring the phone, the occupant sees live video and talks back, and can release the door remotely. For a clean commissioning and handover, follow our Hik-Connect installer setup & customer handover guide, and keep our Hik-Connect setup & troubleshooting hub bookmarked for the common gotchas.
Wiring, power and PoE: what you need on site
The cabling decision follows the system type. 2-Wire kits run over two non-polarised cores back to the supplied distributor, which handles power and signal — ideal when you are reusing legacy cable. IP kits run over Cat5e/Cat6 with PoE, so the door station and often the indoor station are powered from the switch, and a kit such as the DS-KIS604-P(C) includes that PoE switch. Villa door stations like the DS-KV8113-WME1(C) accept either PoE or a local 12 VDC supply, which is handy when the nearest power is a plug-top PSU rather than a switch. Whichever route you choose, plan the door-release wiring (electric lock or gate relay) and any exit button at the same time.
What about TalkVu?
TalkVu is Hikvision's emerging video-intercom line, expected to broaden the door-entry range over the coming quarters. Public UK datasheets are still limited at the time of writing, so we are not quoting specifications we cannot yet verify — but if you are speccing a large or future-proofed project, it is worth asking us what is current before you finalise the order. For everything shipping today, the 2-Wire, IP, villa and modular ranges above cover the vast majority of UK jobs.
Hikvision video intercom FAQ
Can I answer a Hikvision intercom on my phone?
Yes. Add the door station or indoor monitor to the Hik-Connect app and calls ring your phone with live video and two-way audio, and you can release the door remotely — no port forwarding required.
What is the difference between 2-Wire and IP Hikvision intercoms?
2-Wire runs over two non-polarised cores and is ideal for retrofits that reuse existing cable; IP runs over Cat5e/Cat6 with PoE and suits new builds and networked, multi-monitor sites.
Do I need an indoor monitor with a Hikvision door station?
Not always. Villa stations such as the DS-KV8113-WME1(C) can call the Hik-Connect app on current firmware without an indoor station, though most installs still fit at least one monitor for reliable in-home answering.
Which Hikvision intercom is best for a block of flats?
A modular door station like the DS-KD8003-IME1(B)/S, built up with keypad, card-reader and nametag modules so each caller can ring the correct flat and residents can enter by code or fob.
Can a Hikvision intercom release an electric lock or gate?
Yes. Hikvision door stations and indoor stations include relay outputs to trigger an electric lock, maglock or gate; plan the lock power and exit button into the wiring at first fix.
Are Hikvision villa door stations weatherproof?
The DS-KV8113-WME1(C) is rated IP65 for dust and water and IK08 for impact, so it is suitable for an exposed external entrance.
