Hik-Connect is Hikvision's free cloud service for remote access to cameras, NVRs, DVRs, video intercoms and access controllers. It replaced the older HiDDNS dynamic-DNS service in 2017 — devices still registered to HiDDNS must be migrated. This hub replaces Netview's historical Hik-Connect release-note posts; for version history, the Apple App Store, Google Play and the Hikvision EU download portal are the current sources.
What Hik-Connect does — and when not to use it
Hik-Connect uses a peer-to-peer (P2P) connection with a relay fallback. Advantages: no router port forwarding, no DDNS hostname, one account covers multiple sites. Limitations: the connection traverses Hikvision's cloud infrastructure, so for high-bandwidth 4K continuous streaming or sites with strict data-residency requirements, direct port forwarding or a site-to-site VPN is often preferred.
Migrating from HiDDNS
HiDDNS hostnames (e.g. yourname.hik-online.com) are no longer issued and existing entries have been migrated or retired. If you still have a device trying to register to HiDDNS, its remote access is broken — the fix is to enable Hik-Connect on the device:
- Log in to the device web UI.
- Go to Configuration → Network → Advanced → Platform Access.
- Set Platform Access Mode to Hik-Connect.
- Enter a verification code (6–12 chars, letters and digits). This is the shared secret for Hik-Connect — keep it strong.
- Tick Enable and save.
Creating the Hik-Connect account
- Install the Hik-Connect app on iOS or Android (search "Hik-Connect for End User") or download the Windows client from the Hikvision EU portal.
- Register with a mobile number or email. A verification code is sent for each.
- Choose a strong password. Hikvision enforces 8+ chars with mixed case and digits.
- Enable two-factor authentication from Account → Account Security.
Adding a device
The fastest way is the QR code on the device label or the web-UI Platform Access page.
- In the Hik-Connect app, tap the + icon top-right.
- Scan the QR code or enter the 9-digit serial manually.
- Enter the device's verification code (set in step 4 above).
- The device is now linked to the account. You can share it with other Hik-Connect users from Settings → Share Device.
Apps and clients
- Hik-Connect — Mobile (iOS, Android) — the end-user app for live view, playback, push notifications, intercom answer.
- Hik-Connect — Windows — desktop client with similar feature set, useful where iVMS-4200 is overkill.
- iVMS-4200 — professional client; the iVMS-4200 hub covers adding devices via Hik-Connect inside iVMS.
- HikCentral Pro — enterprise client; also supports Hik-Connect cloud bridging.
Security best practices
- Use a long verification code per device — treat it as seriously as the device admin password.
- Enable two-factor auth on the Hik-Connect account itself.
- Never reuse the device's admin password as the Hik-Connect verification code.
- Audit shared devices monthly — Settings → Share Device shows every linked account.
- Disable Hik-Connect on devices that don't need remote access. Fewer exposed surfaces, fewer risks.
Common problems and fixes
- Device offline in app — check the device web UI Platform Access shows Online. If it says Offline, firewall or outbound UDP block on the site is the usual cause. Hik-Connect needs outbound UDP 8000 and HTTPS 443.
- Verification code rejected — the code is case-sensitive; common typos are zero-vs-O and one-vs-l. Reset from the device web UI and re-add.
- "Device cannot be added" after moving site — a Hik-Connect device can belong to only one primary account. Remove it from the previous account first, then add on the new one.
- Push notifications missing — iOS and Android background restrictions kill them. Allow the Hik-Connect app unrestricted background data and turn off battery optimisation for the app.
