What is ColorVu 3.0?

ColorVu 3.0 is Hikvision's third-generation full-colour low-light imaging platform, and its headline change is that image quality is now driven by AI processing rather than optics alone. Hikvision announced the platform as the opening of a new EasyIP 4.0 Plus generation, built around HikAI-ISP — an AI image signal processor trained on large image datasets that performs noise reduction and dynamic motion-trail reduction with far more parameters than a traditional ISP (Hikvision launch release, PR Newswire). Two further additions matter on real sites: 3D LUT colour correction, which restores truer colour rather than simply brightening the scene, and AI WDR, which blends bright and dark areas naturally and decides for itself when WDR should be on — no manual toggling at commissioning. What changes vs the outgoing Smart Hybrid Light cameras?

The short answer: same form factors and same Smart Hybrid Light concept, but a cleaner night image, truer colour, smarter WDR and a sharper person/vehicle classifier. What does the extra "A" in the model code mean?

The doubled letter in IPC-T249HAA-LU is Hikvision's marker for the ColorVu 3.0 / EasyIP 4.0 Plus refresh of the equivalent HA model. Decoding the rest is unchanged: T = turret, D = dome, 2 series = value line, 49 = 4MP, -LU = built-in microphone with Smart Hybrid Light. Hikvision's product page also lists (F), /SL and /SRB sub-variants of the T249HAA internationally (Hikvision Global) — the UK stock models Netview carries are the standard LU builds in 2.8 mm.

IPC-T249HAA-LU: the 4MP ColorVu 3.0 turret

The IPC-T249HAA-LU is the volume workhorse of the new generation — a 4MP turret that will cover most domestic and small-commercial positions. Per the official datasheet (Hikvision datasheet PDF), the 2.8 mm build gives a 95.7° horizontal field of view with DORI detection to 63 m, while the 4 mm option narrows to 79.6° and stretches detection to 77 m. The sensor is a 1/3" progressive-scan CMOS at 2560 × 1440, running 25 fps at full resolution, with colour sensitivity of 0.0005 lux at F1.0 and 120 dB WDR. Recording is H.265+/H.265 down to a 32 Kbps floor, there's a built-in mic with environment noise filtering, and the housing is a metal-bodied IP67 unit rated −30 °C to +60 °C — happy on any UK elevation. Power is PoE 802.3af Class 3 at a maximum 7.3 W, or 12 VDC. ONVIF Profile S and G are supported alongside ISAPI, so it slots into third-party VMS setups as easily as HiLook and Hikvision recorders.

IPC-D149HAA-LU: the vandal-resistant dome option

The IPC-D149HAA-LU carries the same 4MP ColorVu 3.0 imaging package into an IK08 vandal-resistant dome, and it is the one to fit where the camera is within reach or likely to take a knock. The 2.8 mm dome sees slightly wider than the turret at 101.5° horizontal, with three-axis adjustment for precise aiming on walls, soffits and ceilings — full figures are on our product page. Motion Detection 3.0: what actually improves on site

Motion Detection 3.0 is a more accurate person and vehicle classifier, and in practice that means fewer nuisance notifications for the end user without fitting an AcuSense camera. The datasheet describes MD 3.0 as "more accurate on person and vehicle classification" (Hikvision datasheet), with alarm triggering filterable by target type. For the customer who found MD 2.0 cameras a little chatty in windy gardens or on tree-lined drives, this is the single most sellable improvement of the refresh: alerts arrive when a person or vehicle enters the scene, not when the hedge moves.

Smart Hybrid Light: three modes, one camera

Smart Hybrid Light gives you IR, warm white light, or an intelligent blend of both from the same 30 m illuminators, selected per channel at commissioning. Run IR mode where discretion matters, white-light mode where full-time colour and visible deterrence are wanted, or smart mode — IR until an event, then white light snaps on for colour capture of the trigger. With ColorVu 3.0's 0.0005 lux colour floor, many suburban scenes with a street lamp or PIR floodlight will hold colour without the white light doing any work at all, which keeps neighbours happy and preserves the deterrent effect for when it matters.

Which NVR should you pair them with?

Any current HiLook or Hikvision NVR handles these cameras, but pairing them with an AcuSense recorder gets you recorder-side person/vehicle filtering and smart playback on top of the cameras' own MD 3.0. What is the difference between ColorVu 3.0 and Smart Hybrid Light?
They solve different problems. Smart Hybrid Light is the illumination system — blended IR and white light with a 30 m range. ColorVu 3.0 is the imaging platform behind it: HikAI-ISP noise reduction, 3D LUT colour, AI WDR and a 0.0005 lux colour floor. The new HAA cameras have both.
