If you install CCTV, the Reyee EG Series gateway router range is the quiet workhorse that decides whether your customer can actually see their cameras from a phone — reliably, securely, and without you opening risky ports on their broadband router. This installer buyer's guide walks the whole Ruijie Reyee EG line-up, from the £75 desktop box to the 4 Gbps rack gateway, and shows which model to spec for remote NVR access, multi-WAN failover and Ruijie Cloud management. Every model below is a cloud-managed router we stock in Leicester for same-day dispatch.

At a glance
- What it is: the Reyee EG Series is Ruijie's range of cloud-managed routers and security gateways, sitting between the broadband line and the LAN to handle routing, multi-WAN, VPN and Ruijie Cloud remote management.
- Why CCTV installers use it: it gives the customer secure remote viewing of their NVR or Hik-Connect devices over IPsec, OpenVPN, PPTP or L2TP VPN — no insecure port forwarding — plus multi-WAN failover so the cameras stay reachable if one line drops.
- Smallest: RG-EG105G-V3 — 5 Gigabit ports, 100 users, 600 Mbps. Biggest: RG-EG1510XS — 1,500 clients, 1,000 IPsec tunnels, 4 Gbps.
- One cloud: manage the gateway, your Reyee PoE switches and Reyee access points from a single Ruijie Cloud account.
- Buying: Netview is a UK Reyee/Ruijie authorised wholesaler — trade desk 01163 800 838, same-day dispatch.
What is a Reyee EG Series gateway, and why does it matter for CCTV?
A Reyee EG Series gateway is a cloud-managed router that sits at the edge of the network and controls how traffic moves between the internet and the cameras, NVRs and switches behind it. For a CCTV job it matters because it is the device that lets your customer watch their cameras remotely safely. Rather than opening ports on the broadband router — the classic mistake that exposes an NVR to the internet — the EG gateway builds an encrypted VPN tunnel and is adopted into Ruijie Cloud, so you and the customer reach the site through a managed, authenticated path. Every EG model supports IPsec, OpenVPN, PPTP and L2TP VPN protocols and full Ruijie Cloud management.
The second reason is uptime. Most EG models carry two or more configurable WAN ports with intelligent load balancing and failover, so if the primary broadband line drops, remote viewing and alerts fail over to a second line or a 4G/5G backup. For a monitored or business site, that is the difference between "the cameras are always online" and an awkward phone call.
Reyee EG Series range at a glance
The fastest way to choose is to match recommended client count and throughput to the size of the site. The table below lists every EG model Netview stocks, with the headline figures published by Ruijie Reyee.

Headline client, throughput and VPN-tunnel figures are from the Ruijie Reyee EG Series product pages; PoE budgets are the wattages on each unit's box.
Which Reyee gateway for a small site?
For a home or small shop with one NVR and a handful of cameras, the RG-EG105G-V3 is the natural starting point: five Gigabit ports, a recommended 100 users and 600 Mbps of throughput, with full Ruijie Cloud management and VPN. If you also need to power a single PoE device — a doorbell, an outdoor AP, or one camera — step up to the RG-EG105G-P-V3, which adds four PoE+ ports with a 54W budget. Both fit neatly in a comms cabinet or on a shelf next to the recorder.
All-in-one gateways with built-in Wi-Fi
When the customer wants routing and Wi-Fi from one box, the EG "GW" models combine a cloud gateway with a built-in access point. The RG-EG105GW(T) is the Wi-Fi 5 desktop option for a small office. For faster wireless, the RG-EG105GW-X is a Wi-Fi 6 AX3000 unit rated at up to 2.976 Gbps of combined wireless throughput (574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz plus 2,402 Mbps on 5 GHz), with five high-gain antennas, up to four configurable WAN links and one-click Reyee Mesh for extending coverage.[spec] These are handy on small mixed jobs where the CCTV, the till and the office Wi-Fi all share one gateway.
Mid-range multi-WAN gateways
For a busier site — a pub, a medium retail unit, a small office block — the 200-client tier is the sweet spot. The RG-EG209GS gives you eight Gigabit ports plus an SFP slot for a fibre uplink. The RG-EG210G-E is the volume seller: ten Gigabit ports, a recommended 200 users and 1 Gbps of throughput, shipping with two WAN ports that expand to four for load balancing and failover, and the full IPsec/OpenVPN/PPTP/L2TP VPN set.[spec] Where you want the gateway to power cameras directly, the RG-EG210G-P-V3 adds eight PoE+ ports with a 110W budget.
High-performance and rack-mount routers
The EG300 family steps recommended clients up to 350 and throughput to 1.5 Gbps, with 64 VPN tunnels per unit. The RG-EG305GH-P-E is a desktop model with four PoE ports; the RG-EG310GH-E is the rack-mount version for a comms room; and the RG-EG310GH-P-E adds eight PoE ports to power an edge of cameras or APs without a separate switch.[spec] These are the right call when the customer has multiple VLANs — for example, a dedicated CCTV VLAN kept off the office network — that need routing between them.
Multi-gig and 10G performance gateways
Where the broadband is full-fibre or the site is large, the XS models bring multi-gig ports and serious VPN capacity. The RG-EG406XS and PoE RG-EG406XS-P handle 400 clients at 2,500 Mbps with 100 IPsec tunnels. The RG-EG710XS moves up to 700 clients, 3 Gbps and 300 VPN tunnels. At the top, the RG-EG1510XS is built for multi-site operators: 1,500 concurrent clients, 1,000 IPsec VPN tunnels, 4 Gbps throughput, dual 10G SFP+ ports and on-board storage for six to twelve months of syslogs.[spec] If you manage CCTV across a chain of sites, this is the gateway that anchors the hub.
How to give a customer secure remote CCTV access
Use a VPN and Ruijie Cloud — never port forwarding. The recommended approach is to adopt the EG gateway into Ruijie Cloud by QR code, then configure a site-to-site or client VPN (IPsec or OpenVPN) so the customer's phone or your laptop reaches the NVR through an encrypted tunnel. The recorder keeps its private LAN address and is never exposed to the public internet, which closes the most common attack path on CCTV systems. Hik-Connect or Hik-Connect P2P can still be layered on top for the end user's convenience, and iVMS-4200 connects cleanly over the same VPN for desktop monitoring. Because the gateway, switches and APs all live in one Ruijie Cloud account, you can check WAN health, reboot the line and push config changes remotely without a site visit.

How to size a Reyee EG gateway for a CCTV job
Match the model to the site in six quick steps:
- Count the clients. Add cameras, NVRs, PCs, phones and Wi-Fi devices. Under ~100 → EG105 family; ~200 → EG210; 350+ → EG300/XS series.
- Check the broadband speed. Sub-gigabit line → any EG model. Full-fibre 1 Gbps+ → choose RG-EG210G-E or a multi-gig XS model so the gateway is not the bottleneck.
- Do you need failover? Two broadband lines or a 4G/5G backup → pick a model with two-plus configurable WAN ports for load balancing.
- Power any PoE? If the gateway should run a camera or AP, choose a "-P" PoE model and total the wattage against its budget (54W / 110W).
- VLANs and routing? A separate CCTV VLAN that must route to the office → EG300 series for the routing headroom.
- Adopt into Ruijie Cloud. QR-scan the gateway, set the VPN, hand the customer a viewer login — done.
Not sure which one? Pair the gateway with the right switch using our Reyee PoE switch sizing guide, and if you are linking buildings, see our Reyee wireless bridges for CCTV guide. For remote management across several sites, the Reyee Cloud multi-site guide covers the workflow end to end.
Frequently asked questions
Can a Reyee EG gateway give remote CCTV access without port forwarding?
Yes. Every EG model supports IPsec, OpenVPN, PPTP and L2TP VPN, so you build an encrypted tunnel to the site and reach the NVR on its private LAN address. The recorder is never exposed to the public internet, which is the secure, recommended alternative to port forwarding.
Does the Reyee EG Series work with Hikvision and HiLook NVRs?
Yes. The EG gateway is brand-agnostic at the network layer — it routes and secures traffic for any IP CCTV system. Hikvision, HiLook and Hik-Connect devices sit behind it like any other LAN client, and connect out over the VPN or P2P.
Which Reyee gateway is best for a typical small business CCTV install?
The RG-EG210G-E suits most small-business jobs: 10 Gigabit ports, 200 recommended users, 1 Gbps throughput and multi-WAN failover. Choose the RG-EG210G-P-V3 if you also want to power cameras over PoE+.
Do I need a separate switch as well as the gateway?
For more than a few cameras, yes — the gateway routes and secures, while a dedicated PoE switch powers and connects the cameras. Use our PoE switch sizing guide to match the two, and manage both from the same Ruijie Cloud account.
Can I manage Reyee gateways, switches and APs together?
Yes. Ruijie Cloud manages the whole Reyee estate — gateways, access points and switches — from one dashboard, with remote config, health monitoring and alerts.
